These cats are of medium size, the body is rather long, muscular and slender of rectangular format. The bare skin of Levkoy is soft and hot, it is excessive, elastic and wrinkled. Levkoy cat’s peculiar features are: special angular contour of its head and “stepped” profile (dogface appearance) folded ears and by large, but not well wide opened, almond-shaped eyes. They are very friendly and active. The cats express sexual dimorphism. Head: Alonged modified wedgeshaped. From the top view angle head of Levkoy resembles a soft outlined pentagon that is a little longer than it is broad, where the muzzle lenth is only 1/3 part of the head. The forehead is rather low and the skull is long and flat. Prominent cheekbones and eyebrows form the angular outlines of the head. Profile is “stepped” – of two levels. The upper lines of nose bridge and of the head are almost parallel. Nose: Not long and broad, with slight step up on the eyes level. Muzzle: Not long, is slightly rounded, with clear muzzle break. Whiskers: Curly, may be shortly snapped. Or none at all. Neck: Of medium length, muscular, slightly arches from the shoulder to the base of the base of the skull. Ears: Rather large, set high and wide apart. 1/2 or 1/3 part of each ear is roundly folded forward and down, without touching the head. Remarcable part of Ukrainian Levkoy cats may have straight ears . They are nessesary for succesfull breeding of Ukrainian levkoys. Skin and coat: Skin is thick “excessive” elastic and wrinkled on the head, above and under the eyes, on the neck, belly, legs and the groin. Preferable are the hairless cats. COAT: totally bare skin is preferable. But young cats, or show cats of the first period of selection may have remnants of fur on points or be evenly coated with short (1-3 mm) velour fur all over the body. For breeding purposes cats of “brush” variation are acceptable having coarser curly fur all over the body with possible bare areas on head, neck, back; as well as cats with soft, curly, modified (synthetic) fur. Color: All colors are accepted Tabby cats, are not differentiated by pattern. Penalize: Too Short round head, round eyes, short “cobby” body, weak chin, stressful behavior. Disqualify: Defects of the born structures, one or both eyeliner’s turn in ward; crossed eyes. Other disqualify in accordance with the show rules. Outcross with other breeds: Don Sphynx, Scottish Fold, Peterbold, Houshold Cats, fenotypically correspond to the morphologicall type of Ukrainian Levkoy. ladacats: English about Levkoy 2010 UKRAINIAN LEVKOY In the fall of 2005 on the international exhibition of cats, conducted by "ROLANDUS-UNION INTERNATIONAL" by the international association of the amateurs of cats, by Pedigree commission of Association and by the author of the created new breed of cats - by me Biryukova HELEN were presented seven animals (of more than 30 already existing in 2005) to the presentation, for the acquaintance of wide public with the cats UKRAINIAN LEVKOY. In addition by the Pedigree commission were represented the Article about these cats and preliminary standard for Ukrainian levkoy cats, printed in the Associations annual for 2005 year. On the preliminary standards, translated into English, to foreign experts in all breeds of cats, whom arrived to the exhibition: from Netherlands PETER PAUL MOORMANN, from Great Britain ELAINE RICHARDSON, from Russia HELEN DUBROVSKAYA and expert from Ukraine GNATKEVICH HELEN it was proposed to estimate on accordance to the standards given by the author and by other owners of UKRAINIAN LEVKOY cats. It is necessary to say that the results were stunning - and spectators, and experts, and press, and the television: - all were astonished and interested by, they took pictures, conducted video survey, questioned about the ways of the raising of these animals. Especially international experts became interested by Ukrainian levkoy, and Peter Paul Moorman and Elaine Richardson said that among breeds of cats Ukrainian Levkoy has very good prospects, they took pictures of these cats and photographed with them and with the author of breed with pleasure. Paul Moorman said that will acquaint to foreign felinologists with the Ukrainian levkoy and propagandize abroad their breeding. I - the author of the breed of cats named Ukrainian levkoy - infinitely grateful to all experts, members of Pedigree commission "ROLANDUS", to all workers of my club, to photographer S. Yarkovoy for a huge help in the prosecution of breed. I apply photographs from this exhibition. Besides photographs I have videotape recordings from the exhibition, made both by me and by television, the reporting from six (6) channels of Ukrainian television, photo reports with the comments of Ukrainian newspapers, numerous responses on the Internet. And all began so: - from thoughts and once again thoughts. Planning creation of new breed of animals by connection in one genotype two sufficiently far being distant genes and obtaining progeny with the planned pedigrees signs, it is necessary to be aware of problems in the form of appearance of a critical or unstable state of genome, which is characterized by the whole set of reactions, different from the initial, with the aid of which new organism attempts to find a new ways of existence, maintenance of homeostasis in the new body. The purpose of breed mating is a creation of that desired, in relation to the stable genome, composed by the genomes of all its individuals, but not static set of genes, but totality of genes in their dialectical interaction - is developing genome of breed. Taking into account these factors, assuming this approach to the genome, as to the acting system of self-regulation, it is possible to foresee close ones and distant formations of new, strongly differing from initial, phenomena. Such, for example, as hybrid dysgenesis - the instability of genome, or vice versa - the phenomenon of heterosis - successful combination of genes, and we will get wonderful healthy posterity of the desired type. Appearance of plenty of systems anomalies in posterity will be the index of dysgenesis. Therefore after the flow of the "primary drop of the blood" it is desirable to separate animals "in itself", if the worst did not happen (anomalies), we are choosing and allowing in work only individuals, who manifest good base of hybrid force - the heterosis, expressed in stability to diseases, strong constitutionally and adequate on the behavior. At the same time it is necessary to take care also about the selection in the pair of most similar according to the planned type of animals on the basis of inbreeding in order to double, stabilize desirable signs and, at the same time to double "negative" - to have a possibility to reveal and to reject animals with the poor, harmful heredity quickly. So, at first we bring in a sign, and then stabilize and improve the type of the obtained descendants in each subsequent generation. Special attention must be spared to the steadiness of the reactions, to the adequate behavior of the animal selected by producers, ancestors. Psychical (mental) health is directly connected with the physical prosperity of organism. The stronger the organism, the more stable is its nervous system. Anomaly of behavior is the first sign of disharmony, instability, dysgenic. Forming an exterior is impossible separately from behavior, as it is not possible to separate form from the content. Harmonious animal is the coordination of all functions of organism and the adequacy of its reactions to the factors of environment, excellent balanced appearance (even if it is uncommon in the general understanding) and, certainly, sparkle of individuality. The best animal have to have norm on the bulk of the signs stipulated in a standard, not separately, but in the wholly harmony. Beauty is not ideal constitution (build), this is something more, where neither to add nor to reduce, when deficiencies do not strike the eyes, they do not scotch a look, and create unique appearance of exactly this animal with its energy and energetic, plasticity and cleanness of lines. So, it seems, everything is clear: here are genes and signs encoded by them, which are transferred from the parents to posterity in a certain way. Here is the prosperity of breed mating! These genes - are colors! Others - fur, ears, tail, eyes, head etc. But No! Yes, there are genes, they exist materially, as the signs coded by them are material. But these are not always only those signs, which we see, looking at animal, not their sum, but elaborate complexes. Describing animal, we use such concepts and terms as form, size, mill, line, length, texture, etc. But all these parameters of living organism, that we name ,"signs", are not separate, independent from each other. Probably, they on their biological essence are complex, complicated, on each other dependent and are divided into the smaller, not so noticeable, inherent ,equally to both one and another, maybe not very desirable sign. Simply for comfort during the work with the selective material, in the description of the exterior of animals we enlarge, select them for designation. And according to the description of the various reasons or parameters of animal we can imagine its general view, on associations, existing in the consciousness and, even , we can imagine, as it moves or feeds. Due to different life experience and different aesthetic views of people, reading standards, which determine the exterior of animal, they differently perceive and imagine the appearance of animal. Therefore descriptions according to the type "long corps", "large ears", "short nose", "wider, longer, higher and so forth" are received not on quantitative - but at sensual level. We can imagine it as a picture, at the level of appearance, if you want. Even without drawing or program. Certainly, it would be possible to make measurements and checking to design with the help of computer graphics any most whimsical animal: as long ago died dinosaur or fruit of fantasy of creator. But that will be robots, chimeras. To create the living, warm, happy real animal with the planned exterior and the desirable character - became my persistent idea. An idea walked through meditations, pictures and selection of living material (cats) for realization of plan. Any idea in its formation and development passes three basic stages. At first it is assumed by ones, with negation and bewilderment of many. But majority generally know nothing about it. Then, in development and progress of idea by professionals, it follows its acknowledgement, and disputes of specialists and developers - "pro and con", about the "good and evil", about the aspects of application and influence on the surrounding world become the property of wide masses. Idea with further improvement, although in the simplified form, after all, is being perceived even by laymen, simply someone likes it more, and someone less. Everything said is correct for formation and development of both: world views and technical ideas, aesthetical canons in art, architecture or industry. It is correct and for the views on creation of new forms of life - breeds of animals and plants, their modification, or cloning, other ways and methods of their obtaining. It is simpler with productive animals - nevertheless this is meat, eggs, milk, fur, horse powers! Purpose is clear. We can argue as desired furiously and emotionally about the occasion of the need of creating the new, completely unreasonably whimsical, not useful, not productive, not working animals, about expenses, objective difficulties of their breeding and support. But the fact remains to be the fact: "created by appearance and the similarity "- correspond and create, devoting to the Temple of dreaming everything: thoughts, time, money, life. In this way appeared all brilliant and not works of art, records, models of clothes, cars, yachts, weapon, toys, new breed of animals etc. Decorative animals - toys - "mini" horses and doggies, curly and "super" long-haired, absolutely naked or maximally short-nosed, short-legged, short-tailed cats - the matter is clear - this is a whim, but not a necessity. But how we love them those no longer "our smaller brothers", created by Mother Nature, but created by us people - our children. Sure, to give birth to a child (let us say, a human baby, idea or the work of art) is a very responsible work, troublesome and exciting. And as to his own child each creator - father or mother, certainly, wishes cloudless existence, which is unthinkable without the reliable material means. In living organisms this fortress of construction, reliability of life-support, no matter how touchingly ephemeral they will look. This is priority principle, although in the creation of decorative breeds often are taken exactly abnormal, vicious in the wide understanding signs - the border signs: too short nose, too long wool, etc, which complicates the life of animals. Now without an owner such "toy" can not live, it will not manage its organism. However, the wild animals, grown in the zoo or simply in captivity, be it a tiger or canary, they become helpless, dependent on the man too. And nevertheless, realizing all above enumerated, I started acting. Taking into account that the breeds of cats Don Sphinx and Scottish Fold are mating on base of natural Dominant mutations of aboriginal domestic cat in Rostov-on-Don and simple farmer cat in Scotland, I was relied on the God and the Mother Nature. THEY gave us these "Milagros". BUT WHY it was happened? What was THEIR PROPOSITION for? For nakeing to nude the cat of any already existing breeds? Is it interesting? Or it is more interesting only to fold ears of any more already existing breed of cats? And I decided, figuratively speaking, to use the principle of the "mixer of hot and cold water for the receipt of desired warm" - I decided to create naked and lop-eared cat.
ladacats: Previously I outlined to myself original appearance of "neophyte" developed the construction of that bridge, which had to connect nudity, wrinkles and fold-ears, without repeating, but only using signs of the INITIAL breeds. This means that I did not want to get a lop-eared Don Sphinx or naked Scottish Fold. UKRAINIAN LEVKOY is planned by me different from both mentioned breeds. His body is more flexible, elegant, more stretched than both ancestor breeds (probably, this will introduce flexibility and non defectiveness of skeleton) it is more amusing than Don Sphinx and Scottish Fold, has flatter skull and very angular (like Dogs) head. And even ears are not clasped to head as Scottish fold's, but standing, and only a part of the ear hangs rounded on the cartilage, more faithful is folded ahead downward. Wonderful Eyes form of new cat breed and wrinkles I undoubtedly took as the breed forming sign from the DON Sphinx. The presence of these data was obligatory. The sizes of body, head, and extremities were dictated only by the presence of health, energy, freedom of motions. Confidence in the health of posterity was given by knowledge, that many individuals - the ancestors of the new breed of cats named Ukrainian Levkoy - descended from my Cattery and from the Catteries of well-known acquires and they were checked on posterity, and also they did not bear obvious negatives. Name for the new breed of cats arose after prolonged reflections, messages at the subconscious level, after debates with like-minded persons and opponents of idea. LEVKOY is consonant and somewhere conformable to the bent leaflets of this plant (ears of the levkoy cat). And almost naked doggy with similar ears is called Leveret. But even more naked Peruvian dog is called Peruvian orchid. And something in it is general with the angularity of Levkoys. UKRAINIAN levkoy is named, according to tradition appropriate to the breeds of different animals a name of the geographical places of their origin. Here are Caucasian, German, Belgian, Scottish sheep dogs, and English, Arab horses, and Russian, American trotters, Dutch and Latvian cows. And cats: Angora, British, Siamese, Siberian, Russian blue, Persian, American short-haired and American Kerl and bobtail, the Don sphinx, Cornish, Devon, German and the Ural Rexes - cat of all countries and peoples! But THERE WAS NO UKRAINIAN CAT. And finally it happened! After several years of preliminary preparatory work, on 21 January, 2004, from selected and grown by me pair were borne the kittens - first UKRAINIAN LEVKOYs. Among them there was outlined type velour, almost naked and lop-eared cat - LEVKOY OF PRIMERO. So was registered the first cat of the new created breed UKRAINIAN LEVKOY by the Pedigree commission of International Association of amateurs of cats "Rolandus - Union International" in Kiev, Ukraine. It is very contact and energetic, amusing and is similar to a cat just a little. It has long enough, but not beyond measure, body, strong extremities, rounded sinewy neck, straight mills, hardly curved as dragon's; with everything of that, when a cat sits down or is laid, the relief wrinkles of surplus skin are obviously visible on the neck, breast, head, armpits and in groin. The head of cat is not round, but angular, in profile it is stepped as I wanted. Ears are bended forward - downward to one third part of ear. That gives to a cat completely original form. At the beginning of 2006 there were already about 40 individuals of Ukrainian levkoys. They are the descendants of LEVKOY PRIMERO and 7 lady-cats. Nowadays in 2010 We have the third, The fourth and Fifth generation of these kittens already. Phenotypically almost all descendants of ancestor are similar, although among them there is not only naked, also velour and brash variations, or not lop-eared - "STRAIGHT" kittens, which are fully laid in the scopes of standard of the created breed of cats. They are healthy, Strong and lovely cats. We did not notice any skeleton damages' or weakness of kittens or adult cats. UKRAINIAN LEVKOY is the selection breed of cats, created on basis of two natural DOMINANT mutations of Hairlessness' Hrbd and foldness: Fd. Work started in 2000, Ukraine, Kiev, ÌÀËÊ RUI "Ladacats ULF" cattery or nursery, breeder BIRIUKOVA ELENA VSEVOLODOVNA. A new breed was composed on the basis of animals of the nursery: Don sphinxes a little bit facilitated and elongated format, With very angular form of their heads. -More with the introduction also of the Dominant natural mutation of foldness (Fd) for mating this new glamour breed. A used cat with folded ears, was specially selected by the origin, It was long, flexible, strong and healthy, with wonderful character, It was obtained by the intentional cross-breeding for matting the necessary phenotype. It's not thoroughbred, but the main thing - lop-eared! All its ancestors occur from the well-known nurseries of the Ukraine. And they had very healthy kittens . General view of UKRAINIAN LEVKOY cats: Levkoy - this is naked, lop-eared, cat of original kind, hot by touch, strong and flexible, with the elegant average-long body, doglike angular head, with long enough extremities and average long tail, surplus elastic skin, which generates wrinkles on the head, body and feet. As the breed-forming sign it is necessary also to consider the elongated, almond-shaped form of eye. Levkoys are very well-behaved and contact with respect to themselves similar and man.
